Kaisahan
Kaisahan is an organization in the Philippines that promotes building a solid foundation for a prospering society by providing the weaker members of that society with the necessary means to own and develop their own businesses, in order to improve upon the living standards and ultimately stimulate the economy by introducing these “new consumers”, making them a significant contributing factor to society. Their activities are mainly geared towards farmers and other members of the agricultural sector. Kaisahan promotes the utilization of democracy and promotes this among its members as a means to take part in shaping society and profit from its rewards. In essence the goals Kaisahan has set are about equality for all.
Kaisahan was founded in June 1990 by the movement of former secretary of Agrarian Reform: Florencio Abad, following the enactment of the CARL Law in 1988.
Reshaping the Agrarian sector means dividing the available land, turning the landless into land holders. It is essential to educate these new landholders in order for them to become responsible producers of agricultural products who work within a politically and economical environment that works with them, not against them.
Their vision revolves around an economically sound agricultural policy, while preserving the integrity of their environment. Kaisahan promotes the agricultural advantages of the country compared to other competing countries while ensuring that the land's resources are guarded in order to prevent them from being abused. Foremost, their policies are about equality for all, investing in a social climate that ensures the fundamentals for growth in all aspects of the world.
Creating lots of small farm owners, besides enabling them to earn their own living, gives those owners a reason to be involved in the countries social development, while those farm owners develop their business and come to their full potential, they in turn become consumers, stimulating the national economy.
The goals Kaisahan has set for itself won't be reached without strong political guidance and a well construed social and economical policy, that also takes cultural legacies into account. Their goals and the means to accomplish them can only be reached through cooperation with farmers and workers that are willing to implement the methods and are prepared to be active participants in the sociological and economical process of the country.
Kaisahan has dedicated itself to assist in speeding up the process for adapting the programs that equip and educate their beneficiaries in all areas of agricultural development, which includes participation in overseeing the implementing of these programs.
